momma update

so many of you have been super supportive with everything that has gone on with my mom this year and i wanted to share what has been going on for that past month. as you know we went to walt disney world at the beginning of the month, my mom has always dreamed of going there and i am so happy that we could fulfill her dream. she did pretty well until thursday of the trip, which was all day epcot. my dad and her stayed at epcot almost until closing, seeing everything. when they got back to the resort, i was asking her what she liked best and what she had for dinner and she was having a really hard time remembering her day. My dad said that she had been like that for a bit and it was apparent that something was wrong. It was really, really hot, it could be part dehydration, part heat stroke, not sure. she asked me the same thing several times that day, she just wasn't herself. she was happy though and slept well that night.
friday morning she had dialysis and was doing pretty well, talking as good as she had since the february strokes. so my family flew to oregon, saturday morning my mom was not doing well-she could not remember basic things like how to transfer from the bed to her wheelchair, etc...so my dad took her into the hospital and after tests the doctors confirmed that she has had another stroke. they couldn't determine when it was, but her memory loss was severe and her talking was back to not very good. my mom stayed in the hospital for a bit and then was moved to a nursing care facility last week. they told her that she would be there maybe 3 weeks, so i would guess maybe 4-6 weeks--because with my mom it is ALWAYS longer and harder. she is back to physical therapy and speech therapy. she really isn't talking too well, words are hard for her to say and i think it is super frustrating for her.
what has been hardest for me is that she does not have a phone in her room and her cell phone does not get service in her room, so i don't get to talk to her near as often as i am use to.
my mom is my best friend
when i was single we talked everyday, once i was married we talked every other day or several times a week. i am so use to being able to talk to her and get her advice, her knowledge and her comfort in my life. last week i had a hard time, especially when she is not well, i like talking to her for the reassurance that i get that she is ok, i was really struggling with not being able to talk to her, crying a lot and feeling down. thankfully i have a great friend that while i was venting, suggested i start writing her letters. i have started and it really helps because i tell her all that i would if we were talking, it makes me feel more connected to her. i haven't been able to talk to her yet to see if she has started to get my letters, but i am hoping that she can feel more connected to me too. so i am feeling better and my mom is slowing getting better. thanks for all the support and prayers, it is much appreciated.
ps-yesterday we had an offer excepted on a house! will keep you updated on that exciting news!

Dev - It is brave of you to update what is going on with your mom. We are all doing whatever we can. Be sure to think about sending your letters to Aunt Debbie or Aunt Karen. We are encouraging Aunt Lee Ann to do the same. I will be taking a notebook over to her and we will put all letters in there to be read to her whenever. Sometimes your dad is overwhelmed with everything he has to do, that is why I am suggesting sending the letters to one of us. We love you. Hang in there and trust in the Lord as to the outcome.

Dev, I'm sorry about your mom's situation. I'm so glad you got to have that fun amazing trip, living her dream, while she was doing well. You will all be in our prayers.
Good luck with writing the letters. I'm sure it will be good for both of you. Keep me posted. Love you!!!
